Live Music – Caleb Nei

Date: 04/10/2021 Time: 2pm-5pm Event Type: live
Come for the wine stay for the music!
In normal times pianist Caleb Nei and upright bassist Kevin Johnson each play more than 170 shows each year (both together and as part of other groups.) They perform regularly throughout Virginia, Maryland, DC and into West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The bulk of their repertoire comes from the Great American Songbook—those timeless tunes form the early twentieth century, but they occasionally throw in a few pop or rock tunes for fun.
Expect tuneful melodies, swinging solos, and engaging performances. Some tunes they’ve recently been playing: Fly Me to the Moon, L-O-V-E, The Way You Look Tonight, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, It Had to Be You, I Love You, What a Wonderful World, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Sweet Georgia Brown.
Caleb and Kevin play regularly at Barns of Rose Hill in Berryville, and yearly as part of the well-attended Bistro Concert Series at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury. They’ve played at local jazz venues including Blues Alley, Twins Jazz club, and recently played two sold-out shows for the opening concert at the new Flat 9 Jazz Club in Winchester, VA. Other memorable performance locations include Corcoran Gallery of Art, Freer Gallery of Art, Mount Vernon, National Portrait Gallery, The Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport, and Supreme Court of the United States.
Besides playing together, they enjoy helping form the rhythm section of various trios and quartets.
